I was reminded this week that our present struggle with the Corona 19 virus places most of us in a necessary but challenging and troubling self-isolation. The creative ways we have utilized to stay in touch with each other have been helpful, but their ongoing use reminds us that we are not out from under the cloud of this virus yet. The necessary compassion and understanding provided through community remains elusive. As Holy Week approaches I am reminded that even in the midst of a crowd, we can find ourselves isolated. In the midst of just such isolation not finding understanding or compassion in those around him, Jesus finds himself isolated. In his isolation Jesus turns to the one who has always offered compassion and understanding, his loving God. In his most difficult hour Jesus teaches us to turn to the same loving God and pray not only for ourselves but for all who long for understanding and compassion. When the storm is over, the sun will shine.
