It can be hard in times like this to see past the present circumstances to the future. One day at a time is more than enough! Unsettledness, uncertainty, suspicion, apprehension, confusion surround us. The veil of the coronavirus seems relentless even unwilling to yield control.

In Paul’s letter to the church in Rome, he speaks to the same kind of concerns that preoccupy the church which finds itself in a hostile environment. Caused not by a virus but by persecution for their faith. The heavy hand of the Roman empire was also relentless.

Paul writes: “But we also see glory and tribulations, knowing, that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us”.

In the face of challenging circumstances, our help comes to us through the love of God poured into our hearts. Let us continue to share this treasure with each other in the world.
